Today, we went to 中生紀念堂,Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. It was very large. We visited the exhibition of 蒋介石 Chiang Kai-shek, and we learned about Taiwanese history. Suddenly, it started to rain heavily, but it became one of the good memories.
In this program, everything was exciting and interesting. During the five days, I realized two things.
First, I felt the warmth of the Taiwanese people. On the second day, we were surprised by the enthusiastic welcome event at St. Peter High School. I found an ema written in Japanese by Taiwanese students, which served as a message card. It said, "Your smile is my treasure." I was moved by the words. How can Japanese people say such a thing to foreigners? Also, when I went to 九份 Jiufen, my friends and I tried to drink authentic Taiwanese green tea. However, the way of making tea was too complicated for us. Then a Taiwanese lady sitting next to us helped us. We exchanged our snacks and had a little conversation. I have had many more experiences in which I felt the kindness of Taiwanese people. It is obvious that our journey became wonderful thanks to their hospitality.
Second, I learned the importance of communicating with foreigners in person. We had interacted with Taiwanese students on Instagram, but when I saw them directly for the first time, I became a little nervous because firsthand communication was different from online communication in reality. I learned how important body language and facial expressions are. Also, it was not until I heard Chinese in Taiwan that I became interested in Chinese pronunciation. There were many things I discovered only by visiting the place. Moreover, I gained the confidence that I can communicate with people in English. This thought became the incentive to learn English.
These two thoughts made me curious about international communication, foreign cultures, and languages. I want to study abroad at university to deepen my knowledge and broaden my horizons.
Taiwanese students are coming to our school in April. I cannot wait for their arrival. I want to see them again as soon as possible, and I will make their trip enjoyable and fulfilling.
Finally, I am thankful to all the adults who have supported our trip, the students of St. Peter High School, and the Japanese members. I will never forget this experience.
