2021年度 第３回即興型英語ディベート
On August 25th (Wed.), the third PDA session was held. This time, the students were told to focus on improving their notetaking when listening to the other team's ideas or when acting as a judge. To do this, they were encouraged to develop their own shorthand system. For example, using abbreviations such as "ex." for "for example" and arrows for words like "increase" and "decrease." Doing this will allow them to take more detailed notes, which will help them when responding to the other team's ideas or when choosing the winning team. Also, such a skill will help them with their general English studies and listening ability.
8月25日（水）、第3回PDA即興型英語ディベートを実施しました。今回は、ディベート中にうまくメモをとることが課題でした。こつとして、省略記号 ー 例えば For example はex, increaseやｄecrease には ↑ や ↓ を使うというアドバイスがありました。慣れてくるとより詳しくメモをとれるようになりますし、英語リスニングにも応用できます。
The first debate motion was "We should outsource coaching of club activities." and the second was "Japan should have nuclear weapons." The first one was interesting because it is closely connected to the students' daily lives. As such, it generated very lively debates. The second was more challenging and student comments showed that they would like to think more deeply about such issues. All students continued to improve their delivery and speech content and length. In particular, many students commented that they have improved their eye contact and volume.
論題は「クラブ活動の指導者は外部委託すべきである」「日本は核兵器を所有すべきである」でした。最初の論題は身近なテーマでしたので活発なやりとりが見られました。2つ目の論題はチャレンジングな内容で、生徒たちからはもっとこのような社会問題を深く考えたい。という意見がありました。
全員が相手に伝えるスピーチの内容と長さに意識して改善を繰り返していました。特に、生徒たちはアイコンタクトと声の大きさが改善されてきた。と言っていました。
The next challenges for the students will be thinking and explaining more deeply. For example, what is the current situation regarding the debate topic. Who will be affected? How will they be affected? What will the results be? To help with this, students are being encouraged to learn more about current issues in Japan and around the world.
生徒たちにとって、「トピックについて、現状どうなっているか」「誰に影響するか」「どのように影響するか」「どのような結果になるか」など、さらに深く考えを巡らせ、説明をすることが次の挑戦になります。こういった思考を深めるために、日本や世界各国で起きている問題について、学び続けることが必要です。
