PDA即興型英語ディベート
2023年度第9回即興型英語ディベート
On Monday January 22nd from 15:45 to 17:45, we held the ninth debate meeting of the year.
First, the three members of our national tournament team gave a short report about their practice for and participation in the contest. They especially thanked the members of the debate activities for helping prepare them so well for the national tournament by always giving great practice, advice and encouragement. The main PDA staff, who had attended the tournament as well, also gave comments and remarked that our improved results reflected the overall level of our monthly meetings.
Next, the debates began. The two topics were Countries with aging populations should prioritize policies enhancing productivity over population increase (高齢化社会は、人口増加よりも生産性向上に対する政策を優先すべきである。) and Japan should legalize euthanasia (日本は、安楽死を合法化すべきである。). Because we are coming to the end of this academic year's debating, we are challenging the students with more difficult topics!
Despite returning from the winter break, both debates were excellent. Students did very well stating their ideas, explaining them, and supporting the with examples. They also worked well in their team, both preparing before, then helping each other with making rebuts and reconstructions. Also, there were many POIs and the debate style was very active and exciting.
After the debating, students were reminded that next time would be the final meeting and the second round will be an exhibition debate with the best debaters from our year's activities, which we are very excited about.
Good job, everyone!
