2026年度第8回即興型英語ディベート
On Monday September 28th, we held the eighth PDA meeting of this academic year. This was the first meeting with two debates.
The first motion was Organ donation should be mandatory (臓器提供を義務化すべきである。) and the second was 'Japanese First' brings more benefits than harm (日本人ファーストは害よりも利益をもたらす。) These topics gave the students a chance to practice a model debate and a criteria debate. They also challenged them to think about more difficult and serious topics. Overall, they did very well and we were especially pleased with their verbal delivery (pronunciation, etc.) and body language. To improve, they were encouraged to use the preparation time think about what the other team might say so they could anticipate and be ready to counter rebuttals. They were also challenged to try using POIs more.
We look forward to the students continuing to apply the skills they have practiced and improve based on their increasing experience and the feedback from judges.
