海外留学レポート
カナダ中期留学レポート①
カナダに1月から留学中の、中学3年生2名の生徒からレポートが届いています。下記のレポートは、留学開始から2週間目のものです。充実した留学中の様子が伝わってきます!
I've been in Canada for a week now! My host mother used to live in Hong Kong and I often hear Chinese at home. But when she speaks with me, she uses English. She is cheerful and very funny! For meals, I eat cereal or bread in the morning. Dinner is mostly Thai rice and stir-fried. She asks me if I can eat the dishes each time that she makes them, but I still can't get used to Thai rice. LOL!
I go to school on foot. It takes about 10 minutes to get there on foot. After spending about 15 minutes with the counselor on the first day deciding on my subjects, I joined my classes right away. The subjects are ELL1, ELL2, math, and business. (In ELL, students are mainly taught the meaning of words and reading passages. At my school, it is a class that every student who comes to study abroad must take.) The people in the classroom are really friendly. Especially in ELL classes, the classrooms were different depending on the student level, so I generally studied with other international students who were at the same English level. I had a lot of help from the first day when I moved from one classroom to another and in class.
On holidays, I go out to shopping malls. When I go out a little bit far, I usually take a bus. About the day after I arrived in Canada, I went to buy a Compass Card (a card that can be used for both Skytrain and buses) with my host mother. It is very convenient because you can easily charge it with cash at the nearest station.
There are many other things that you can't experience in Japan, such as seeing squirrels on the side of the road, pushing a button to wait for the signal to change at crosswalks, getting on the bus from the front (you can get off either side when you get off), etc. It's very interesting!

I have been in Canada for three weeks. Today was the last day of semester 1 and it will start semester 2 next week.
I took 2 ELL, drama, and art classes in semester 1. In drama class, they played a play "Check Please" last week. I couldn't play that because I came here too late to join the play, but it was interesting. In art class, I did pattern branding and a food truck project. They were fun.
I always have lunch with my friends. They are Filipinos and Indians. They are very kind. I went to Richmond Centre with them last Tuesday. It was very nice. I will play volleyball with some of them tomorrow.
My host families are also Filipinos and they are kind. The food is very delicious. The picture below shows the big macaroni that my host mother made. It was very delicious. We always watch some movies on Saturday and Sunday nights. We saw "Quiet Place 2", "Dog Gone" and "The Croods" last weekend. There will be an Italian student at my host family's house next Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing her. I am also looking forward to taking the classes of the 2nd semester.
